  • Student Presentation of Future Creation Project 2025 – Faculty of Data Science, Musashino University

On January 30, I attended the 2025 Student Presentation of the “未来創造プロジェクト” (Future Creation Project) at the Faculty of Data Science, Musashino University (MUDS). This was the seventh time the event was held, and I have been participating since its very first year.

The “Future Creation Project” is a hands-on course designed to help students acquire knowledge and skills that can be applied in the real world. Through the projects, MUDS students engage in practical learning aimed at solving real-world problems. Students conduct collaborative researches with academic groups and companies, or commissioned projects with government agencies.

As with last year, the day of the event was blessed with clear skies. Once again, I had the opportunity to see many passionate presentations trying to address a wide range of social issues, demonstrating cutting-edge data science.

The research themes were diverse. Some projects tackled major social issues directly, such as natural disasters, healthcare, and accident prevention. Others started from personal interests—such as food, fashion, music, sports, and fan activities—and sought to meet broader societal needs. Each project was unique, and I was truly impressed by the overall diversity in topic selection.

This year, the CustomerPerspective Award from our company was presented to a project that developed a system to visualize the risks of natural disasters and encourage people to take action. While there are many services that provide information on disasters after they occur, it is far more challenging to anticipate risks and translate them into human action. Few such systems have been successfully implemented and widely adopted. I found the presenter’s effort to tackle such a difficult challenge particularly impressive.

I was also given the opportunity to offer closing remarks at the event. Under the theme, “Imagine the impact of your work on society,” I spoke about the importance of imagination. I concluded by encouraging the students to carry forward the confidence they gained through their projects into their future endeavors.

Finally, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to faculty and staff members at Musashino University for providing me with the opportunity to participate in this event.
